Introduction
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) has developed guidelines under the Legal Aid Act 1978 for allocating assisted matters among:
- VLA’s in-house lawyers
- private law firms and private lawyers who are members of a Section 29A Practitioner Panel
- private law firms and private lawyers who are members of the Section 30 Referral Panel.
This section:

- discusses briefly VLA’s Section 29A Practitioner Panel and Section 30 Referral Panel
- sets out the general terms of allocation of work of assisted matters
- explains what happens if an assisted person wants a change of lawyer.
