17 – Decision to grant or refuse assistance
Introduction
After Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) receives an application form and any necessary supporting information and documents, VLA assesses all the information in accordance with:
- the Legal Aid Act 1978
- the Commonwealth's Legal Aid Guidelines.
VLA will then decide to eithern make or refuse a grant of legal assistance. This section explains what happens in both circumstances. It also explains limits to the costs VLA will pay.
